Cell Adhesion On Surfaces Of Varying Topographies

چکیده
Micro-topography of a surface in?uences cell adhesion and proliferation. To improve adhesion, polyelectrolyte multilay ers (PEMs) are built on patterned support layers to increase surface Wettability, thereby improving attachment and spreading of the cells. Physical parameters, such as pattern siZe and pitch, in part, regulate cell adhesion and prolifera tion. Varying the surface topography provides a method to in?uence cell attachment and proliferation for tissue engi neering applications.

Cell adhesion on polyelectrolyte multilayer coated polydimethylsiloxane surfaces with varying topographies.
This article demonstrates that the micro-topography of the surface with respect to the pattern size and pitch influences cell adhesion and proliferation. Extensive research has shown the dependence of cell proliferation on substrate chemistry, but the influence of substrate topography on cell attachment has only recently been appreciated. To evaluate the effect of substrate physical properties ...

Silk fibroin films are a promising class of biomaterials that have a number of advantages for use in ophthalmic applications due to their transparent nature, mechanical properties and minimal inflammatory response upon implantation. Freestanding silk films with parallel line and concentric ring topographies were generated for in vitro characterization of human corneal limbal epithelial (HCLE) c...

Cells in their in vivo microenvironment constantly encounter and respond to a multitude of signals. While the role of biochemical signals has long been appreciated, the importance of biophysical signals has only recently been investigated. Biophysical cues are presented in different forms including topography and mechanical stiffness imparted by the extracellular matrix and adjoining cells. Mic...

Biofilms, surface-bound communities of microbes, are economically and medically important due to their pathogenic and obstructive properties. Among the numerous strategies to prevent bacterial adhesion and subsequent biofilm formation, surface topography was recently proposed as a highly nonspecific method that does not rely on small-molecule antibacterial compounds, which promote resistance. H...
